Maundy Thursday

About a decade ago now, in a little cinder block church on the main drag of town I was a part of something I'd never experienced before. Miles from home and in the midst of a spiritual renaissance in my own journey I was open to new expressions of worship. Huddled in the basement of that church building the men gathered together in one room while the women were down the hall. We prayed, shared and then did something totally foreign to my 21st century world - we washed eachother's feet. A simple act of humble service. Physically lowering oneself to meet another's need. Weird, sure. But worshipful in a whole new dimension than singing God's goodness with my lips. I was sold, the simple ritual of humble service had become near and dear to my heart.

One of our sister churches, Grantham BIC, is hosting a Maundy Thursday service with a meal, foot washing and communion [don't worry there's hand washing in between the foot part and the communion part]

This is a great opportunity to keep the season of Easter in ways that deepen the celebration of Easter Sunday. If you're interested sign up here so Grantham's team can know how many people are coming.
